Man allegedly blows up China tax office to vent anger: police

Chinese police said Friday that a man who allegedly detonated a bomb at a tax office in the central province of Hunan last month did this to vent his anger.

Liu Zhuiheng, 51, was captured on Aug. 8 in Quanzhou County in south China’s Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, some 500 kilometers south of Changsha City where the blast occurred, police in Changsha said.

China insurers reports loss on rising reimbursements of traffic insurance

China’s insurers felt the side effect of the country’s booming auto market — with operating losses totaling 2.9 billion yuan (427 million U.S. dollars) in 2009.

Insurance Association of China said here Friday that its 30 member insurance companies that are engaged in traffic compulsory insurance business underwrote 85.02 million units of vehicles in 2009, up 23 percent from a year ago.

China sends 20 mln yuan in fire relief assistance to Russia

China began Friday delivering equipment worth 20 million yuan (2.9 million U.S.dollars) to Russia to help fight a series of menacing fires, according to the Ministry of Commerce (MOC).

Senior Chinese legislator meets new UN resident coordinator

Chen Zhili, vice chairperson of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress, China’s top legislature, met here Friday with the new United Nations Resident Coordinator in China Renata Lok Dessallien.
