China’s north and central areas to encounter foggy weather Sunday

China’s National Meteorological Center (NMC) issued a blue alert at 6:00 a.m. Sunday, warning that foggy weather will sweep most parts in the nation’s north and central regions on Sunday.

Fog and haze are expected to cover the middle and western regions in North China, most of the areas along the Yellow and Huaihe rivers, and the regions along Yangtze and Huaihe rivers. Some parts in the eastern areas of the Sichuan Basin will also be shrouded in fog, said the NMC.

Drought worsens in southwestern China’s Yunnan Province

A total of 4.9 million people are facing water shortages in southwestern Yunnan Province as drought continues to ravage south China, according to the Office of State Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters.

The drought had affected 22.43 million Mu (3.84 million hectares) of crops, including 15.37 million Mu in serious damage and 3.85 million Mu withered as of Friday, Zhang Zhitong, deputy head of the Office of the headquarters.

China strengthens efforts to fight melamine-tainted milk products

Mainland visitors to Taiwan to surge during upcoming holiday
